Is it me, or does it look like some dude in a white wingsuit?

Kinja'd!!!

Not that a wing suit would be useful without any air.

It’s cool but the fact that it splashes down means they can’t reuse it. So in my mind Boeing wins, they can reuse their capsule ten times  I think because they land on da land.

It does seem pretty weird.  Perhaps they intend to do land landings later on?  I thought I saw somewhere that it was NASA who pushed for water landings, but I can’t find it.  So that’s probably just a rumor.

Well they can, just not for crew. SpaceX will refurb and resue as unmanned Cargo Dragons, which means they have to build fewer new CDs, and eventually that line will shut down altogether.

T he original plan was to have it do a powered landing on land but NASA didn’t like that Idea

SpaceX’s original plan was to do propulsive landings on a pad, same as with the Falcon 9.

Kinja'd!!!

NASA was unenthused about Musk’s insistence on having the landing legs extend through the heat shield though, and since his attentions have shifted to the Spaceship, CrewDragon was redesigned to use parachutes and splashdown.
